Brief History
The Department of Finance, Banking and Economic Analysis was established in May 2011. The department brought together members of the Finance Chair of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration in Craiova, the Economic Analysis staff from the Analysis, Statistics and Economic Forecasting Chair, and the Finance and Economic Analysis staff from the Finance, Accounting and Informatics Chair of the Drobeta Turnu Severin University Center.
The Finance Chair had been operating since 1990, when it was established through the reorganization of the Accounting, Finance and Economic Analysis Chair (which operated during the period 1966-1989). Over time, the following individuals have successively led the chairs and, subsequently, the department: Associate Professor George Bădescu, Associate Professor Aurel Brânzan, Ph.D., Professor Petre Stavre, Ph.D., Associate Professor Ion Mareși, Ph.D., Associate Professor Dan Mihail Trandafir, Ph.D., Professor Marin Oprițescu, Ph.D., Professor Florea Radu, Ph.D., Professor Nicolae Sichigea, Ph.D., Associate Professor Daniel Cîrciumaru, Ph.D.

Mission
The Department of Finance, Banking and Economic Analysis has as its central mission the pursuit of research and teaching activities at the highest qualitative level within the scientific field of Finance.
Research performance aims to promote competitive scientific research at both national and international levels, seeking to achieve internationally and nationally recognized publications, enhance the visibility of researchers nationally and internationally through the dissemination of research results, and support the business environment in finding the best solutions to the challenges they face in achieving value creation objectives.
From an educational perspective, the department focuses on training highly qualified specialists in the fields of banking, stock exchange, insurance, private and public finance, through the creation, development and refinement of students' and organizational employees' knowledge, skills and competencies. By establishing a permanent connection with the business environment, the aim is to develop students' personal and interpersonal skills, enabling them to set and achieve their own objectives, meet the needs and expectations of employers, and engage at the societal level in addressing community issues.
Research
The department publishes biannually the journal Finance. Challenges of the Future, which is indexed in international databases.
Several faculty members of the department serve on the editorial boards and scientific councils of multiple international and national journals.
Research Centers and Professional Scientific Associations in which Department Personnel Hold Membership
Department members are part of the Center for Banking and Financial Research (CEBAFI), coordinated by Professor Cristi Spulbăr, Ph.D., and the research center INCESA - Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Economic and Social Sciences (CIRESS).
Faculty members of the department are active in prestigious professional and scientific organizations, including:
- evaluators within the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS);
- Members of the Body of Expert Accountants and Authorized Accountants of Romania (CECCAR);
- Members of the Chamber of Financial Auditors of Romania (CAFR);
- Members of the National Association of Valuers in Romania (ANEVAR).
